Gastric Flu

Something just came into my mind when I saw the email that Prof. was down with a gastric flu. I suppose it is quite a common problem nowadays as a few of my friends was down with gastric flu recently.

Well, did some research and hope this post will build an awareness of what to do if you or me happen to have the problem.

What is Gastric Flu?
Inflammation of digestive tract, usually caused by a virus transmitted by personal contact resulting in acute diarrhoea.

How to get infected?
  • Caused by contaminated food or water
  • By specific food which produce an extreme allergic reaction
  • By a sudden change in diet (abroad, for example)
  • By any illness or drug which alters natural balance of bacteria in gut.
Symptoms includes (normally lasting 1-6 days (fewer than 10 days)):
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Abdominal pain
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Bloody stools
  • Fainting and Weakness
Do you know?
  • It is also common for river swimmers to become infected during times of rain as a result of contaminated runoff water. The incidence is 1 in 1,000 people.
  • Inadequate treatment of gastroenteritis kills 5 to 8 million people per year, and is a leading cause of death among infants and children under 5.
Basic Common Treatment?
Well, the most common treatment is to hydrate yourself regular to replace the lost fluid in your body. This also prevents dehydration.

*Got the above information from Wikipedia. Do search there for more information on gastric flu.

If nothing goes well, visit your nearby GP immediately for treatments and antibiotics.

Good News?

Saw these two feeds on my Google Reader.
  1. Lower EZ-Link bus and train fares from April
  2. Pump prices down by 3 cents for all grades of petrol
Are these good news to the Singaporeans Public Transport Commuters as well as Vehicles Owners?

Well, personally for me, it does benefit me in some ways. Upon calculation, I can save up to about $100 per month once they starts the adjustments.

As for the vehicles owners, I don't own one, but I believe that it will benefit them to a certain extend too.

Any comments ladies and gentlemen out there?

Romping Fishing Trip

Took up a new hobby in fishing mid-last year when my friend ask me to accompany him to Romping, Malaysia for a fishing trip. Wasn't keen on it at first, I got to admit that I've a fear on touching fishes with my bare hands.

Well, after I mustered my courage to touch the first fish, I feel that its kind of funny. Haha.

Below are some pictures that were taken during the trip.

Welcome to Romping, Malaysia

Our Fishing Boat

Behold, the Weapons!!!

Scenery

Catch and Caught!!!

Big Game Time!!!

Yeap, that's me. Haha. Do I look like a pro? Well, not bad for a newbie.

Here it comes. Look at the beauty.

Our Sailfish! 2.2m long!!!

After a long day out at sea. Its time for dinner!!! Yeah, did I say dinner. Yes, our dinner fishes.

Total Catch for half a day as we spend the other half looking for the big game.

The fishes sorted out for dinner

Sorry folks, we were too hungry to take pictures of all the dishes.

Well, it was a fruitful and nice trip. Manage to learn something new as well as how to handle the different kinds of situation that might happen during fishing. For example, when tying a new hook on the boat and on land are different. On land you can look at the hook and tie, but on the boat, you got to rely on your senses to tie the hook. Reason being that on land it is stable and you can look down at it. But on boat, due to the waves and unstable-ness, you will get sea-sick when concentrating looking at the hook.

So, anyone interested in fishing? Do contact me and I'll check with my friend on the date and price. We can organize a group up together. Total package will include transport from Singapore to Malaysia and back, (3hrs trip there) as well as tibits and drinks on the boat when out at sea and dinner when back on shore. Well if you don't mind a newbie like me, I can help "serve" you on the boat when out at sea like removing the catch for you, putting on the bait for you if you are scared of fishes, prawns and squids. Haha :)

Check the video out on some sailfish caught by my friend who introduce the fishing sports to me.

*All photos and videos are courtesy of my friends. Thanks guys. Really much appreciated.

My 1st Post after so long!!!

Test test...this is my 1st post.

In fact this is my first real blog in the blogosphere.

I still remember doing a website using geocities during my secondary days with plain html codes and has to update the website daily, like copying the previous day post and editing it to upload it online. (Imaging changing the dates, time, topic, title, and the worst of all is the uploading time taken with a 56K MODEM.)

Haha. Well, those were the days.

Cheers,
Jeffrey Yeo
